"I am not satisfied with Alexander Petrov": the director Andrey Razenkov about the film Postman

The director and script writer Andrey Razenkov, the actress Polina Rafeeeva, the producers Elena Yatsura and Ilya Burets introduced the film Postman participating in the Russian Premiere competition of 47th Moscow International Film Festival.

The film action takes place in May 1943 in a small town in the rear front. The autistic postman has been properly delivering mail since he was a kid. The whole town knew and liked him and he himself had very warm relations with a few families. So, one day the Postman could not deliver the death notice and wrote a letter from the front instead. He replaced death notices with letters and no one had a clue it was a fraud, because the Postman was gifted, it looked like different people wrote these letters. But it could not last long because during the war time letters were under the supervision of military authorities. Alexander Petrov played the main role in the film.

Andrey Razenkov: "I am not satisfied with Alexander Petrov, because for me it was not enough of him. We have a modest chamber film with a short rehearsal period and few shooting days, so I did not have enough time to enjoy working with him. We did not know each other before the film test, but already there we spent three hours talking and he surprised me, first of all, with his human qualities. I believe he is an introvert who does not need anyone when he works on a role. He is a very subtle, interesting and hard person, but he knows what to do and how to do it. We almost needed to walk on a razor's edge, because the Postman is weird on one hand, but on the other hand he understands everything, he is a sensible person. Making him a holy fool wouldn't have worked like it wouldn't have worked to make him a regular guy, then it would have seemed strange he had not been taken to the army. That is why we thoroughly worked on his posture, manners and Alexander's contribution was of great value".

Polina Rafeeva: "This was my debut work, my first time on the shooting set and, of course, I couldn't even dream that it would be such a great team and company. I remember my first shooting day when I came there very nervous, blocked, I did not yet understand what would happen and my very first day started with a scene with Alexander: right into the fight".

Elena Yatsura: "You read the story and don't understand if it will be interesting for the audience or not: this is the main question to which the producer responds, everything else are just minor things. We made Postman as a screening film and we are aware that today only major projects such as Marvel comics or Dune do well at the box office or original stories, which did not exist earlier. Postman is such a story".

Ilya Burets: "Working with text is an element of the producer profession. And when the best editor in the country Elena Yatsura brings you a script and you read it in one breath, you come to understand that life is not really full without this film. Great producers used to say that a good project will finance itself".
