"Our only way to survive is by uniting": the director Pradip Kurbah about the film The Elysian Field

The Indian director and script writer Pradip Kurbah introduced the film The Elysian Field participating in the Main Competition of 47th Moscow International Film Festival.

The action of the film is set in 2047 in a vanishing Khasi village in the mountains of Meghalaya State. Only six people live there, each bound by shared grief and unwavering companionship. Through their existence and collective hope, they prove that in the face of any life’s clashes, human connection and resilience remain the pillars of survival. Livingstone, still devoted to his late wife Belinda, takes a poignant bus journey that symbolizes for him both loss and a renewed purpose.

Pradip Kurbah: "The idea of the film emerged in a conversation with my wife when we talked about fear of loneliness and what will happen to us when our children grow up. I also visited small villages similar to the one in the film, you especially feel loneliness and abandonment there. Then I asked a question to myself on who can be a voice for the abandoned people if not me? At the same time, for me it was important to bring up the topic of loneliness not only in this context, but also in normal life. Even in crowded places you can see a lonely man and his fear, many people have it, including myself. So, in the film I also wanted to touch the topic of the importance of community, that human connection can give a man hope. In my opinion, our only way to survive is by uniting and doing everything to bring back hope, because for me hope is vital".
