"My mission is to give a voice to people who were not heard during the tragedy": the director Jaicheng Xai Dohutia about the film Baghjan

The Indian director, script writer, producer Jaicheng Xai Dohutia introduced the film Baghjan participating in the Documentary Competition of 47th Moscow International Festival.

The film focuses on Manab and his wife Bhairabi who live in Baghjan, a village surrounded by rich oil and gas fields. One day, a huge explosion occurred during oil extraction, causing a fire that engulfed their entire village, leading to severe consequences, especially for Manab.

Jaicheng Xai Dohutia: "The film is dedicated to an important environmental issue and I am very glad that it is shown at such a prominent film festival. In our film, there is only one professional actor, all the others are the immediate participants of the tragedy that lasted for almost half a year. I believe that the mission of this film is to give a voice to people who were not heard during the tragedy either by the state or the people around them. So, this is, rather, their film, not mine".
