"This festival is not just about one genre of non-fiction film, but about the full diversity": the Documentary Film Competition jury about their expectations from the program

The jury of the Documentary Film Competition, the Russian director of fiction and non-fiction films Vladimir Golovnev and the Chinese director Pan Zhiqi, the winner of last year’s Moscow International Film Festival, spoke about their expectations from the festival program.

Vladimir Golovnev: "This festival is dedicated not to a single non-fiction genre, but one that shows the full diversity of documentary cinema. This is of a great value because such diversity is rare. New frontiers and artificial intelligence offer endless possibilities to develop, and all of this bestows on the shoulders of documentary filmmakers, who cannot work without human stories. Even if we watch a film about wildlife, we still "humanize" it, looking for a connection to human nature, a link which also depends on the film's cinematography and cinematic language".

Pan Zhiqi: "Right now I am shooting a new film, which, unlike Ms Hu's Garden, is no longer about just one person, but about people, whom I consider the most important element for the reception of any film. Cinema can be expressed through various artistic and documentary means, but what matters the most are the emotions the spectator has while watching the film. In the jury, we will carefully treat each competing entry and will observe the response of the audience with interest".
