"One of the ways to combat drug addiction is through sport": the director Jafar Sadeghi about the documentary film Trick/Tezgah

The Iranian director Jafar Sadeghi introduced the film Trick/Tezgah participating in the Documentary Competition of 47th Moscow International Film Festival.

The film tells a story of how the dreams of kids from a poor region of Iran come true today, ten years later, thanks to the efforts of their coach, although they seemed unattainable just yesterday.

"The problem of drugs in Iran, which borders countries where they are made, is especially bad and the topic of addiction and poverty are closely related to each other. Of course, we have public programs to combat poverty and drugs, but in my film I wanted to show other ways to address this difficult issue. Sport is one of such ways. I found the main character quite accidentally. My friends told me about his sport club. And even before making the film, I lived with the guys from the club for a year for them to get used to me. I understood from the start that it was possible to make a full-scale documentary out of this. But first I made a pilot hour-long film to take a final decision on whose stories to include in the film Trick participating in Moscow Film Festival.
