"One of short films' key features is, above all, precision": the Short Film Competition jury about what they expect from the films

The jury of the Short Film Competition of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival – the Japanese filmmaker Masaki Inoue, the Russian actress Kristina Asmus, and the director, actor, translator and prominent figure in modern Greek theater Georgios Kimoulis – spoke about their expectations from the films.

Georgios Kimoulis: "The Moscow International Film Festival is one of the oldest film festivals. Its history began with Eisenstein, and today it is managed by one of the greatest directors, Nikita Mikhalkov, whom I deeply respect. I’ve watched all his films, including the short film he made as a student. For me, short films are the nucleus of the cinema cell. One of short films' features is, above all, precision. If a director can tell a story in such a short time, it means that he will further be able to make a feature film. I am now interested in the topic of memory in works of art, especially when there are full-fledge systems trying to erase our memory".

Masaki Inoue: "I make mostly feature films myself, so judging short films will be a new experience for me. I believe that making a short film is much more challenging than making a feature film. I hope my colleagues and I will select the most outstanding film from this interesting lineup".

Kristina Asmus: "For me, the most important thing about cinema is seeing life reflected in it. I hope the program will offer a diversity of genres, humor, least gender imbalance, and a bit of nuisance. I’m here to get inspiration from the creators of short films".
