"Our film explores the topics of human emotions and toxic relationships": the director Fazil Razak about the film Desire

The Indian director Fazil Razak introduced his film Desire, which is part of the Main Competition of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival.

The film tells the story of how Amala’s bitter life experiences have left an indelible mark on her soul, leaving her in a deep mental crisis. A young man, Shanu, decides to take advantage of her vulnerable state, becoming her friend, and involving her in crimes to avoid punishment himself.

Fazil Razak: "This is my second feature film. It’s about a young woman with mental health issues, and the plot focuses on how a young man takes advantage of her condition. The film explores the topics of human emotions and toxic relationships. Such things happen not only in India. While I was working on the film’s screenplay, I heard about similar incidents all over the world. The lead role was played by a non-professional actress, a longtime friend of mine whom I’ve known for many years, but she went through a casting call, and I believe she did a wonderful job".
