"This film is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the entire Korean nation's tragedy": the producer Lee Jiyoon about the film When We Bloom Again

The Korean director Shin Kyoung Soo and the producer Lee Jiyoon introduced the film When We Bloom Againparticipating in the Main Competition of 47th Moscow International Film Festival.

The film tells a story about how 250 students from a high school in Ansan City and those who accompanied them lost their lives in the crash of Sewol merchant vessel. Byung-ho whose daughter was among the victims loses his memory from grief.

Lee Jiyoon: "This film is dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the dreadful tragedy for the whole Korean nation when school students died on the Sewol ferry. I represent the Koren foundation of light-pink skirts where the families of the victims came to offer to find the ferry and victims' bodies, for which immense efforts were needed. And I decided to offer Shin Kyoung Soo to make a film about this".

Shin Kyoung Soo: "I have long thought that this tragic story can provide a basis for a mini-series dedicated to such a painful shock for the Korean society. But when the producer offered me to make a film, I immediately imagined a story of one family: a father and two children, with their usual life to be in contrast to the tragedy. But I refused from this in the final version of the film. I understood that I did not want to touch any social and political aspects which were highlighted in many documentaries. A certain reference for the scene where the father on the ferry remembers his daughter was the Biblical story of Jonah in the whale's belly. And for me it was important to show the whole family who lost the child".
