The director Stevan Lee Mraovitch, the producer Svetlana Loshchatova, the assistant producer Paulina Szczekala, the actors Oumar Diaw and Laïd Liazid, the composer Nicolas Jovovic introduced the French film Where There Is Love, There Is No Darkness participating in the Questions of Cost program of 47th Moscow International Film Festival.
The film tells a story of the illegal migrant Fulani who works as courier in Paris. He struggles to overcome the difficulties of living in a foreign country and to support his family in Senegal. Entangled in a smuggling ring, he faces tough choices that will determine his future and the future of his family.
Stevan Lee Mraovitch: "This story is based on life during lockdown when delivery couriers were real heroes, but then they disappeared again. This film is about kindness and simplicity and here we have a clear opposition of two persons who are completely different in everything, being religious vs. atheist, married vs. single, which is also very important. Today, we assess quantity, everyone is ranked, but I believe assessments must be focused not on quantity, but on quality".
Svetlana Loshchatova: "You all see how indifferent and aggressive the world has gone. We do not notice and do not want to see other's problems. It seems to me, the main idea of this film goes like this: "Stop, look around and do good".
Paulina Szczekala: "I wanted to draw attention to two things in this film. The first one is loneliness, as we have more and more people like this. The second is that I want people to think more not just about themselves, but about others.
Oumar Diaw: "I have known Stevan for a very long time, we made a short film and then we made a full-length film. This is our second film together and this is an incredible story about people who we do not notice, but who are a huge part of our life, so we need to pay more attention to them".
Laïd Liazid: "There is such thing as karma, and our film is about how kindness pays off and brings value, about strong people who are ready to share their positive emotions. And it does not matter if they live in France, Algiers, Russia or other countries.
Nicolas Jovovic: "For me, the main task was to make the music simple, do not make it sound complicated and use as few instruments as possible, including because our character is a simple religious person. And in music, it was important for me to put him against the entire huge city full of people".
