"We wanted to show how people drift away from true spirituality": the director Axel Monsú about the film For Your Sake

The Argentinian director, script writer Axel Monsú and the assistant producer José Galli introduced the film For Your Sake participating in the Main Competition of 47th Moscow International Film Festival.

The main character is the teenage girl Zulma who lives in a provincial town and humbly follows the traditions of her family and the precepts of the religious community. But one day something happens, which will make her start deciding for her own life herself.

Axel Monsú: "We deliberately did not underline which was the branch of this community, for us it is more a generic Christian cult image, based on which we wanted to show that people can be wrong in how they perceive religion and drift away from true spirituality. We made the film in my native Misiones province, the biggest part of which is located on the border of Paraguay and Brazil. Like the whole Argentina, today we face big challenges in film production, for example, this year there have been no films made with government support. But we keep working, despite the challenges, and develop cinema, including in our native province, where 40 films were made between 2016 and 2023".

José Galli: "Axel is not just a wonderful director and friend, but also a real activist supporting the Argentinian cinema. Earlier he contributed to the adoption of the Cinema Support Act. We have been friends for almost 20 years, since we organized a film festival together in a place where there was no cinema, right in our province, Misiones. This festival has now been granted international status".
