"The medieval game is directly laid into the film’s narrative": the producer Federico Eibuszyc about the film Oca

The producer Federico Eibuszyc introduced the Argentinian-Mexican film Oca, which is part of the Main Competition of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival.

The story focuses on Rafaela, a young nun from a troubled community. Recently, she has been having the same dream over and over again. One day, the girl is sent to a nearby town to look for a new archbishop. The extraordinary situations that will happen to Rafaela along the way will either lead her to her intended goal or force her to abandon it.

Federico Eibuszyc: "The film was shot entirely in Mexico, and post-production took place in Argentina. The title of our film is somewhat unusual for other countries. It’s important to understand that it has nothing to do with a bird at all, it is specifically about a game. It’s a medieval European board game where players roll dice and move around the game board depending on the numbers rolled. The goal is to reach the finish line first. Many consider this game to be the precursor of all modern tabletop games. But beyond that, it is believed that this game encodes the pilgrimage route to the supposed tomb of the Apostle James in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela. And the film’s director, Karla Badillo, builds the whole plot around the structure of this game, on which the film's narrative is based".
